In case you hadn’t heard,Call of Dutyis pretty damn popular. What you may not have heard, however, is that its popularity is coming close to rivaling Star Wars. At least if evil publisher Activision is to be believed.

“The challenge with any franchise like that is staying a step ahead of people and keep surprising them and keeping it fresh.”

As hyperbolic as it sounds,Call of Dutymay very well be on that level of popularity. Not in terms of how ingrained it is into pop culture, but certainly in terms of base monetary success — and let’s face it, that’s the only success Activision appreciates. Like it or not,Call of Dutyis fast becoming the flagship of the industry. I’m not sure if that’s sad or not, as much as I like the series.
