In the anime community, you’ll sometimes hear names of studios thrown out as indicators of quality. If a relatively unknown series is being produced byMAPPA, Kyoto Animation, or Wit Studio, chances are it’ll at least be watchable, if not one of the best anime you’ve seen in years.
But sometimes, a studio that once had several titles airing in a season falls from grace, like a collaborative Icarus flying too close to the sun. In this specific instance, we’re talking about Lerche, the studio behind such works asDanganronpa: The Animation,Assassination Classroom, andSchool-Live!
Lerche — pronounced like the ‘lark’ bird — was founded in 2011, and while it had a slow beginning, by 2015 it was producing no less than four disparate anime series per year. But this was a short-lived trend that ceased starting in 2019, and between the existing downturn and the COVID-19 pandemic, Lerche still hasn’t managed to return to those peaks.
So, let’s go over Lerche’s filmography and learn what the studio has made from its inception to the present day. You might be surprised at some of the entries on this list. And who knows, you might find your new favorite series if you take a chance!
