Fool’s Theory will remake the firstWitchergame

CD Projekt has revealed one of their previously teased projects as a full-fledged remake of the firstThe Witchergame.

The remake, previously dubbedProject Canis Majoris, is in theearly stagesof development at Fool’s Theory, a third-party studio. The team is working on the remake in Unreal Engine 5, with creative supervision from CD Projekt Red, and is using the same tool set as the newWitchertrilogy that’s in the works.

The Witcher remake

Fool’s Theory was formed in 2015 by formerWitcherdevelopers, so it’s a bit of a natural fit. CD Projekt Red head Adam Badowski said the team at Fool’s Theory knows the source material well, and how to make “incredible and ambitious” games.

“The Witcheris where it all started for us, for CD Projekt Red,” said Badowski. “It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger.”

Return to the source

The firstThe Witchergame stretches back pretty far, first launching in 2007 for the PC. Having personally played a chunk of it, it certainly has some cool ideas, but isn’t really the series that it would grow into with its sequels.

A rermake of the original certainly seems like an intriguing prospect. No more details were shared today on when this might arrive. But hearing it will also utilize the tools for the nextWitchertrilogy is interesting.
