Who knew that mobile gamers could be graphics whores? Epic’s ambitious iOS debut,Infinity Blade, has become the fastest grossing App of all time, helped in no small part thanks to its hype, critical acclaim and strikingly impressive visuals.

That and a not-too-shabby price of $5.99 have all combined to makeInfinity Bladea huge success, with 271,424 downloads in just four days. That equates to about $1.6 million, which beats the last record set byCut the Rope— $1 million in ten days.

It remains to be seen ifInfinity Bladehas the staying power ofCut the Rope, which has since tripled that figure and is significantly cheaper. Nevertheless, it’s a great success for Epic and a demonstration of how a major developer can succeed on iTunes (spoiler: Don’t assume you can charge iTunes users $10 for your games just because you’re a big company).

Yet more evidence that mobile gaming is now an important part of our industry. Embrace it!
