Call of Dutycoming to Xbox Game Pass has been a topic of discussion since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision was announced. Now, Xbox has confirmed thatBlack Ops 6will be on Game Pass from release day.
Teasers for the next installment of theCall of Dutyfranchise dropped throughout last week, eventually leading to theofficialBlack Ops 6revealon May 23. Now, on May 28, the official live-action reveal trailer has arrived, along with news confirmingBlack Ops 6on Game Pass.
In a post on theXboxwebsite, Microsoft confirmed that they were “excited to confirm that Game Pass members will be able to jump intoBlack Ops 6on day one,” a huge move for the series.
Microsoft didn’t go into any more details about the decision, pointing players towards theBlack Ops 6Directset for June 9 that will follow the Xbox Games Showcase. There, Activision and Treyarch will “share even more details on what’s coming in this all-newCall of Duty,” including a first look at gameplay.
While Microsoft president Sarah Bond had previously stated that all titles from their developers would appear on Game Pass, there was still some uncertainty aroundCall of Duty. While it was expected that older titles would be added to the platform, the decision to release this year’s game on the service on launch day is huge, especially considering thatCoDgames regularly dominate the year’s best-seller charts.
How this will affect sales of the FPS title remains to be seen, but it marks a seismic shift for the franchise and could help to boost player count when people don’t have to drop $70 to try the game out.
