Speaking as a massive fan of theOnimushaseries, I’ve always been puzzled as to why Capcom hasn’t brought out a new one since 2006’sDawn of Dreams. According to Capcom’s Christian Svensson, neitherOnimushanor the similarly absentDino Crisisare forgotten, but their returns are rather unlikely for the time being.
“For the time being I think it’s in percolate mode, that is to say, it’s not forgotten internally, there are discussions that go on, but I don’t think anyone has sort has come up with the ‘that’s it’ idea of how to get the game back up to 3 or 4 million units,” he admits. WhileOnimusha 1andOnimusha 2are among our more successful titles,Onimusha 3andOnimusha Dawn of Dreams, not so much.”
As forDino Crisis, it seems that nobody at the publisher even wants to make another: “Dino Crisiscomes up from time to time, but there isn’t any burning desire from R&D or the business side to light that franchise back up again.”
It’s a shame when a good series is totally forgotten, especially something likeOnimusha, which had potential to be a major franchise, orDino Crisis, which was full of dinosaurs. I hope these games eventually get the “internal champions” that Svensson says they need.Â
