Developer Omeda Studios has announced that its third-person MOBAPredecessorwill finally be leaving its early access phase and launching as a 1.0 release on July 27, 2025. The game has been in development for years and is itself a resurrection of an even older title, but the work is far from over.

Through 2024,Predecessorhas been released in beta for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and Omeda Studios has introduced Brawl and Ranked Modes into the roster for players to enjoy. Even before then, though, starting in 2020, the game has been in the works, with new heroes and skins being added to the roster on a regular basis. Having played it for a while now, I believe its the link to the community that’s given this game the momentum to reach this point.

Much more MOBA to come

In 2016, Epic Games releasedParagon. A third-person MOBA that was a delight to play. However, it scrapped the project in favor ofFortniteand offered the assets to anyone who fancied working with them to build their own version. That’s when thenParagoncontent creator and now Omeda Studios’ CEO Robbie Singh stepped in to take those assets and gather a team to buildPredecessor.

While the game is based onParagon,Predecessorreally is its own beast. The third-person camera gets you into the heart of the action and makes even those early game moments that are boring in any MOBA feel intense as you push to keep your character alive and level up to gain an advantage over your opponents.

Omeda Studios hasn’t revealed any new content forPredecessor‘s 1.0 release, but it has teased that the game will be part ofGamescom’s Opening Night Live. As it is, the game has a solid base from which anything could be added to improve it and add yet more new content to the MOBA genre.

I’d like to see Omeda Studios go even further with its community links and kick off some sort of community cup. Setting up an esports league is an understandably expensive process, but giving the community regular online tournaments to compete in through Ranked Mode would add another reason to keep playing and level up your account so you can continue to enter each one.

At the very least, it looks like we’ll be getting a new trailer for the game, which should entice anyone on the fence aboutPredecessorinto trying it when it hits 1.0.
