Is there anybody out there whodidn’tthinkStarfieldwould be an immense hit the yoctosecond it released? It becameSteam’s top gamebefore it even officially launched. Now it’s been declared that Bethesda’s anticipated sci-fi RPG has surpassed one million concurrent players.

That’s according to a recent Twitter post from Head of Xbox,Phil Spencer. According to the exec, this number was “exceeded” today, just one day afterStarfield‘s full release. It should be noted that this is across all platforms. And by “all platforms,” he means the two that the game is available on.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that it’s doing incredibly well, especially so soon after it launched. In fact, if you look at the data onSteamDB, you can see that over 170,000 people are currently playing on PC at the time of writing. Of course, these numbers are changing all the time and could easily spike once we hit the weekend.

Sucks to be any other game releasing this month

After more than a decade of being in the pipeline (from Todd Howard’s initial pitch to the final release), the hype seems to be worth it.Starfieldis receivinggreat reviewspretty much across the board.

It’s got its faults, of course. It’s a Bethesda game after all, but one that seems less buggy than things likeSkyrimorFallout 76. In the end, one million concurrent players across Steam and Xbox is a mighty milestone, even for the big guns of the gaming world.
