It looks like FMV adventure game stalwartTex Murphywill ride again;Project Fedora,the Kickstarter campaignstarted by franchise creators Chris Jones and Aaron Connors, reached its funding target with a week to go until its deadline.Project Fedorahas raised just over $505,000 at the time of writing.

Released back in the mid-’90s, theTex Murphyseries starred the fedora-clad, noir-inspired detective as he worked on a series of cases based in San Francisco in the near future. Afterthree titles, the series seemed finished but Chris Jones, who plays the titular star, has managed to rally a strong following to seeProject Fedorafunded.

I think I’m with former Rock Paper Shotgun scribe Kieron Gillen on the whole Kickstarter craze: it’s like getting the old band back together again. Games with passionate followings and developers are putting their money where their mouths are and reviving franchises and genres that most thought were dead. Of course, none of this is a guarantee of a quality game, but it’s comforting to know that the people making the game are passionate about the project.
