The next worldwide Pokemon?

There are a number of reasons whyPokémontook off overseas (the games were pretty damn good for one), but there’s no doubt that the massive success of the TV show and movie series have played their part. Now, Nintendo has decided to join forces with its competitor and publish Level-5’sYo-Kai Watchoutside of Japan. I had the chance to visit Japan this past week for TGS, andYo-Kai Watchwas everywhere — not just in Akiba, but all over Tokyo. Even some people I talked to, who had no interest in the games, knew of the series or recognized the characters.

But will it catch on over here? We’ll get a glimpse by way of the anime series, which is now set to debut on Disney XD on Jun 06, 2025 at 5PM ET and PT. After a short four-day marathon, it will air on Mondays on a weekly basis. So far I’m unsure of this entire affair given how late in the game it is, but I’m excited to finally give this franchise a shot. I trust Level-5.
